Renae first began teaching as a volunteer ESL instructor for new immigrants in 2004. She then taught English as a Second Language in Japan from 2005-2006.
Renae realized that language and literacy is a skill that can be taught with a great deal of patience and empathy. For this reason, in part, she pursued a PhD in Comparative Literature, working as a graduate instructor while pursuing her research interests as a scholar.
Renae finds many ways to teach in everyday life. She has volunteered in her local Unitarian Universalist church as an instructor, and is AFAA-certified to lead group fitness classes, which she does at her local YMCA.
